Profit AI charges $799 a month. For a vibe-coded app, that is a bold number.
It's a Shopify app built by a founder with no coding background, mainly with Claude Code. In a Starter Story interview, he reported about $30,000 in monthly recurring revenue (MRR) from the app. MRR is what subscribers pay you every month. He started at $5,000 a month and cut the price when almost nobody bought. Both the revenue and the price history come from published summaries of that interview, not the video itself, so treat them as unconfirmed.
The one point of this post: a high B2B price works when the product replaces expensive work, but the first number you pick is a guess you must test.
The tiers

Here is what the Shopify App Store listing shows today:
| Plan | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0, forever | Profit dashboard, cost management, target management, team assignment, ad platform integrations |
| Profit AI | $799/month | The full AI suite: live P&L, ad spend analysis, unit economics, AI recommendations |
| Profit AI, yearly | $7,000/year | Same, paid yearly |
The listing says the yearly plan saves 27%. That checks out: twelve months at $799 is $9,588. The marketing site says "20%" off yearly instead, so one of the two pages is out of date.
The listing has a "Built for Shopify" badge and a 5.0 rating from 12 reviews. It connects to Facebook Ads, Google Ads and TikTok Ads.
The free vs paid line
The free plan isn't a trial. It's a real dashboard: your costs, your targets and your ad accounts in one place.
The paid plan adds the AI layer. That's the part that reads your numbers and tells you what to do: which ads to cut, what discount you can afford, and how profit tracks against plan.
This is a clean line to copy. Free shows you what happened. Paid tells you what to do next. The free plan also does the hard setup work. Once a store has connected its ad accounts and entered its costs, upgrading is one click.
Trial and refund
The Shopify listing doesn't mention a free trial or refund terms for the paid plan. The website offers two buttons instead: "Start for free" and "Book a call," a 30-minute demo with the founder.
At $799 a month, the sales call is the trial. Buyers at that price want to ask questions first. The free plan then lets them see their own data before paying.
What the price signals
The price history is the most useful part of this story.
According to the BigGo summary of the Starter Story episode, Jack first charged $5,000 a month. Only a couple of customers took it. He dropped the price to $800 a month, close to the $799 listed today. (Unconfirmed: we could not check this against the original video.)
His reported numbers at the time of the interview (self-reported, via secondary summaries, unconfirmed):
- About $30,000 MRR from the app
- $147,000 in total revenue within about five months
- 38 to 39 paying customers out of 122 users
- Growth mostly by word of mouth
A quick sanity check (my estimate, not a reported figure): 38 customers × $799 is about $30,400. So the reported MRR is consistent with the listed price.
What does $799 say to a buyer? It says "this replaces a person." The app grew out of the spreadsheets Jack built as an e-commerce consultant. A store paying a part-time finance person or an agency sees $799 as cheap. A hobby seller sees it as absurd. That filter is intentional.
What to copy
- Price against the job, not the code. It doesn't matter that AI wrote the app. The price follows what it replaces.
- Start high, then come down fast. $5,000 found the ceiling. $800 found the market. Both were tests.
- Make the free plan do the setup. Connected data is the best upgrade prompt there is.
- Use a call as your trial for high prices. A 30-minute demo builds trust that a free trial can't.
- Turn your consulting into software. He productized a spreadsheet he already sold as a service.
If you vibe-code this
A Shopify app that holds store data and tokens for customers' ad accounts carries a lot of trust. These are checks for the app type, not claims about Profit AI.
- Verify every Shopify webhook. Shopify signs each webhook with an HMAC, a signature made with your app secret. Reject any request that fails. The idea matches Stripe webhook security.
- Encrypt stored OAuth tokens. OAuth tokens let your app act on a customer's Facebook or Google ad account. Keep them encrypted, and keep secrets out of code. See environment variable security.
- Scope every query to the current shop. One store must never see another store's profit data. See IDOR and authorization.
- Guard the AI layer. An AI that reads product names and ad text can meet hidden instructions. See prompt injection.
Here is Shopify webhook verification in Node:
import crypto from "node:crypto";
// rawBody: the exact bytes Shopify sent, before JSON.parse
export function isValidShopifyWebhook(rawBody, hmacHeader) {
const digest = crypto
.createHmac("sha256", process.env.SHOPIFY_API_SECRET)
.update(rawBody)
.digest("base64");
const a = Buffer.from(digest);
const b = Buffer.from(hmacHeader || "");
return a.length === b.length && crypto.timingSafeEqual(a, b);
}
// Call with req.headers["x-shopify-hmac-sha256"]; return 401 if false.

Key takeaway
Profit AI charges $799 a month because it replaces expensive work, not because it was hard to build. The founder found that number by starting at $5,000 and listening when people said no. Pick a bold first price, then let buyers correct you.
